Structured Approach

RKJ Consulting Limited adopt a structured 3-stage approach to screening and interviewing potential new employees:

Stage 1: Preparation and Familiarisation
This is without doubt the most important stage. Here we review the job requirements with you and preferably speak with the manager who will be responsible for the new staff, in an effort to fully understand what the position entails and what will be expected from the successful candidate(s). Once this has been done, we will create/develop an Interview Template, outlining the key areas to be screened for and to act as a feedback document for you. Key areas of Education, general Role context requirements, Work Experience and Professional Skills / Technical Capabilities will be addressed. Once this document has been completed and agreed with yourselves, an Interview Script will be developed, containing a range of specific questions to be asked at Interview and covering the key criteria mentioned earlier.

Stage 2: Screening the CVs
Here, a Screening Criteria document will be constructed, based on the agreed Interview Template; this document will be used during the CV screening process. CVs will now be accepted and screened against the outlined criteria. Candidates whose CVs appear to contain the required criteria will be scheduled for a more detailed telephone interview.

Stage 3: The Interviews
Candidates whose CVs have passed the screening stage will then be interviewed by telephone. Each interview tends to take around 1 hour and will address the primary selection criteria as detailed on the Interview Template. Particular consideration will be given to the areas of Work Experience and Professional Skills / Technical Capabilities.

Once each candidate interview has finished, the Interview Template document will be completed with a detailed review of the candidate's abilities and competencies in each of the key areas agreed earlier. The interviewer will also assess and document the candidate's perceived strengths, weaknesses and possible development / training needs.
Finally, the interviewer will make a recommendation as to the suitability of the candidate for employment in the role.
